Korova is kicking ass this year with some damn good concert announcements. I’m super excited for A Place To Bury Strangers on March 1, and a little later this spring The Ataris, Defeater, Matt Pond PA and more. Just announced last night is Burger Hangover 3 on MARCH 22-23 with THEE OH SEES, JEFF THE BROTHERHOOD, COATHANGERS, DIARRHEA PLANET AND 20+ other bands. SXSW ends on March 22, so this is not only a “spillover” show, but also a ‘Hangover’ show (monday 23).
Thee Oh Sees are a garagy indie-psych band from Cali by way of Rhode Island. They sound like they’ve been heavily influenced by Iggy Pop, The Velvet Underground, maybe a little Jefferson Airplane and David Bowie. Thee Oh Sees play all the festivals, are on the satellite radio and the music blogs. Their first couple of albums explored different facets of the prog-rock psych fusion styles but their last few albums zeroed in on a more developed, produced sound. It’ll be their first time in San Antonio.
The last time the Coathangers were in TX, their only stop was in San Antonio and they brought the TenEleven to capacity. From what I hear, that show was nuts. The Coathangers are an all-female punk band (so yes, their name is a political statement) who have a song called Adderall - so, smoke em if you got em.
Diarrhea Planet wowed the press with their Governors’ Ball appearance last year. They came through SA to the Limelight, but I’m a dumbass and didn’t get tickets. Hoping to check em out this time around.
