Festival Season in Central Texas

MavFest.jpg

With SXSW in the rearview, festival season kicks off IN 9 DAYS. The Maverick Music Festival in San Antonio and the Euphoria Music and Camping Festival in Austin get underway beginning April 10th. The same weekend as these two festivals begin here in Central Texas, Coachella in Indio, California also kicks off.

San Antonio has seen a recent surge in relevant names coming to the Alamo city and MavFest2015 is no different. Beginning Friday in the middle of downtown San Antonio, Maverick Music Festival hosts a solid mix of indie rock, hip-hop and dance music. Best Coast, Portugal. The Man, Tune Yards, Wavves and Son Lux are a few of the buzziest names on the lineup. This year's festival features a heavy component of regional groups who are big shots like Quiet Company, Nina Diaz, Ishi, Sub.Culture, Sarah Jaffe and Brown Sabbath. A healthy dose of hip-hop and electronic music will also take to the stage including the legendary Cypress Hill, Chisme & Mexican Stepgrandfather, Kree23, Lajit, Chris Conde, Pink Leche, and DJ Proper Yarn. One things for sure: you won't go home fiending for distorted guitars or enthusiastic lead singers because the rock this year is coming full force.

Euphoria has really come into its own. The festival is only in it's 4th year and has a lineup like a veteran. EMCF 2015 includes names that are perhaps a step in a slightly different direction that in previous years. Thievery Corporation, STS9, Ghostland Observatory and Big Gigantic aren't the typical groups you see at EDC/Ultra/EDM style festival, which Euphoria seemed to be building up to. Ghostland Observatory has only performed once since going on hiatus in 2013, it'll be interesting to see if they make any announcements  Producer and DJ Porter Robinson is billed to be performing a live set, it'll be interesting to see what gear and gadgets he brings on stage because a number of his most popular tracks incorporate 8bit sequences and 808s. Also, Thievery Corporation has been performing live lately with a full band and they are billed to be bringing "Special Guests".

Over the next 8 days, Sobre Sound will UNDERSCORE artists from both central Texas festivals. EuphoriaMCF has performers from both San Antonio and Austin including CRIAS, Henry & The Invisibles, Andrew Parsons & Toddy B. Maverick Fest has 20+ bands from central Texas performing on 3 stages downtown at La Villita. We'll discuss the groups' current projects and introduce some of what to expect in their performances.
