Untapped Fest at The Lone Star Brewery

For the first time this weekend, San Antonio will host an installment of Untapped Festival. The all day beer and music celebration highlights over 200 beers from 50+ breweries, including 30 from TX. This year’s San Antonio edition will feature Metric, GZA, Tokyo Police Club and Saint Motel as headliners with support from King Pelican, Nina Diaz, Ellis Redon, Mariachi Nuevo Estilo, and Los Callejeros De San Anto. In only 4 years, Untapped Fest has expanded across Texas with headliners like The Flaming Lips, Cold War Kids, De La Soul and more and promises to bring good times to San Antonio.

Untapped Fest takes place this Saturday, November 21 at the Lone Star Brewery in downtown SA, GA tickets start at $33*, gates open at 3:30. Untapped Festival is produced by CrowdSource and was founded in Dallas in 2012 by Corey Pond, Matthew Haber, and Spune Productions.

Aqualand Development has steadily released information regarding their redevelopment plans since they purchased the property in May, including bringing back Lone Star Beer production, possibly other microbrewery establishments, and a new beer garden to the downtown factory. Other visions Aqualand owners aim to bring to the Lone Star Brewery include a Texas Music Hall of Fame and a 1,200-seat live music hall. In a statement to San Antonio Business Journal, CEO of Aqualand Development Mark Smith said, “This is like an open canvas. This property hasn’t been touched in years. This is the biggest project in the history of our company. But we believe in this. We put our money into Lone Star because we can see what it can be.”

In 15 years and six albums, Metric have collaborated with legends like Lou Reed, performed with the Rolling Stones, entertained the Queen of England, and landed a Top 20 radio hit without an outside label. Metric played an intimate show at the Pearl Stable back 2013 touring off their record, Synthetica, and now return to San Antonio in support of their newest album Pagans In Vegas. The new LP has more electronic production than previous Metric, including a synth pattern that harkens back to old school Underworld. But don't worry, the rock didn't go anywhere, Pagans In Vegas still has a intensity of a rock band with guitar centric songs, but this record is definitely a step in a new direction for Metric, it will be interesting to see what their live performance is like this Saturday.

It's been almost exactly 20 years since The Genius released Liquid Swords, the critically acclaimed, platinum second album by GZA. The album is often cited as one of the best hip-hop albums of all time and 3 years ago, GZA released a reissue of Liquid Swords in a box set packaging that doubled as a chess board and pieces. At Fun Fun Fun Fest, he was able to elaborate on the topics he's been known to interrupt performances for like science and politics. GZA returns to the Alamo City this Saturday at the Lone Star Brewery.

BAND TO WATCH: How do you have a party in under 200 seconds? Blast "My Type" by Saint Motel. This band from California has an infectious hit that's been remixed and played millions of times every where possible on the internet (example: 1.7 million soundcloud, 9 million youtube, 31 million spotify) and they'll be here in San Antonio this Saturday at Untapped. You don't want to miss this set.
