Art of War is as much of a celebration of hip-hop's roots as it is a competition. There is a fun, competitive element found throughout much of the day's events. According to the organizers, their goal is to focus on what they call the four elements of hip-hop: dance, the visual arts, DJing, and MCing, all in a family-friendly environment. The Art of War is an all day & night event beginning at 2pm until 2am at Josabi's on the NWside in Helotes.
During the day, AOW will host a 2-on-2 break dance competition that will be judged by an expert panel of professionals. The competitors are from all over the state of Texas as well as some national dance pros and they will compete for cash prizes. There will be a select group of graffiti artists from across the nation painting murals on-site. Artists like local pro Nik Soupe, Article and Gens (@blackpack_1).
In the evening, AOW introduces 'Beat Alert', a live producer battle consisting of contestants performing original tracks of drums, scratching, sampling, juggling, etc. AOW will have local MCs and bands performing between contests and headliners, food trucks and adult beverages and other vendors will also be on-site to complete the vibe. This years' AOW features the legendary Ghostface Killah of the Wu-Tang Clan. This past SXSW, it seemed like Ghostface was everywhere performing with BADBADNOTGOOD in support of their collaboration. It's going to be interesting to see what Ghostface Killah brings to town. Check out the video below of Ghostface Killah and BADBADNOTGOOD featuring Doom.
