This Sunday I had the privilege of attending a music soiree hosted by Finetunerz at Blue Star Contemporary (BSC). Finetunerz is a Music Bridges Around the World program geared towards exposing cultural art, classical music, visual arts and more to the young creative class in San Antonio.
On this night, guests were greeted with appetizers, wine and an opportunity to take in BSC's 30th birthday exhibition, an homage that pays tribute to the first ever exhibition that launched BSC back in June of 1986. Finetunerz was spot on in bringing together their target audience, a mix of other artists, entrepreneurs and creative minds. For a final touch, the night was highlighted by an intimate performance by Grammy award winning accordionist Victor Prieto.
Performing as a trio alongside double bass and cajon, Prieto dazzled with a delicate balance of fast fingered arpeggios and lush chords. The trio's Latin American flavored jazz had the crowd in a nice groove really playing to the room with subtle dynamics that blended just right in the reverberous museum space, and just as quick as Prieto and co. drew the audience in, it was over. But not to worry, it was just a taste of what is to be a full performance by Prieto tonight for free Valentine's Day concert at 7:30 at the Southwest School of Arts Chapel on 1201 Navarro St.
As a first time attendee to a Finetunerz event, it's something worth looking into if you are an arts/music lover or are looking to connect with other creative people in San Antonio.
